Spring break 2021 may prove to be one of the most welcome spring breaks in recent history! Even while precautions remain in place to safeguard against the pandemic, families and vacation travelers are cautiously planning excursions and the Cosmosphere has some great new attractions in store for them.

Spring Break hours of operation will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily March 13th through March 28th. For more information about tickets, showtimes and help planning a visit, call 620-662-2305 ext 347 or see cosmo.org.

The CosmoKids interactive play area for children and accompanying adults will reopen March 5, 2021! The new area was open for just three days before the Cosmosphere shut down due to COVID-19 during spring break 2020. It and the naviGATOR® Simulator remained closed after the rest of the facility reopened.

“We are eager to share this wonderful new space with our youngest visitors and feel now is a time we can do so safely,” said Cosmosphere CEO Jim Remar. “Thanks to this new space, even the youngest learners can bring STEM learning to life when they visit the Cosmosphere.”

CosmoKids is free with a ticket to the Hall of Space Museum, which is also available at no charge to Reno County residents and to all Cosmosphere members. The naviGATOR® Simulator will also reopen and is available as part of the All-Access Mission Pass or for an additional $5.

  • Free Guided Camp Tours will be available from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. daily March 13 through March 28. Reservations for the tour are encouraged and can be made by calling the Cosmosphere Box Office at 620-662-2305 ext 347.
  • Free Museum Tours will be available for ticketed guests on the hour from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 20. The one-hour docent-guided tours provide a perfect overview of the world’s largest combined collection of U.S. and Soviet-era spacecraft.
  • The Carey Digital Dome Theater will offer a new documentary showing to its lineup. Into America’s Wild: The Search for the Hidden Wonders of Nature, narrated by Morgan Freeman, opens on March 13. It and two other documentaries: Mountain Quest and Secrets of the Universe, will be shown daily.
  • Planetarium shows during spring break will include Night Sky, which guides patrons through the constellations and planets they will see in the sky that evening, as well as Black Holes, which explains the origin of black holes, how they’re found and more.

To continue to fight the spread of COVID-19, precautions in place at the Cosmosphere include:

  • Mandatory masks for all visitors age 4 and older
  • Social distancing while in the museum and standing in line is encouraged.
  • Hand sanitizing stations are located throughout the building.
  • All high touch surfaces are sanitized multiple times daily.
  • CosmoKids, the naviGATOR® Simulator, Dome Theater, Planetarium, Dr. Goddard’s Lab are all treated each month with antimicrobial spray, which kills viruses on surfaces for thirty days, and surfaces are cleaned between shows each day.
  • CosmoKids is cleaned three times each day; individual materials kits are provided to each participant and reusable items are sanitized between uses; each kit contains sanitizing wipes so surfaces can be further cleaned to the comfort level of each guest.
