UPDATE DEC. 4, 2024: The renovated galleries in the Cosmosphere’s Hall of Space are open. While many artifacts are on display during this time, the exhibits and graphics won’t be fully completed until Spring 2025. Until then, to assist with identifying significant artifacts on display in the newly renovated galleries, a Gallery Guide is available here. Please be aware that occasionally, parts of the renovated galleries could be off-limits when crews install exhibits and graphics.

HUTCHINSON, KS, Jan. 16, 2024 – As the Cosmosphere continues to improve its public offerings, it will upgrade several of its galleries in 2024-2025. Starting later this month, portions of the Hall of Space will close for renovations. During the renovations, the Cosmosphere will try to keep many of its iconic artifacts on display for the public. When work is completed in the Hall of Space Museum, visitors will be treated to upgraded exhibitry, new audio/visuals and several new interactive exhibits. Coinciding with the closures in the Hall of Space will be the opening of new exhibits in the public spaces outside of the Justice Planetarium and Dr. Goddard’s Lab. Additionally, during the renovation period, visitors will still be able to enjoy the Carey Digital Dome Theater and CosmoKids as well as the Planetarium and Dr. Goddard’s Lab.
“The Cosmosphere was fortunate to receive recent donations from several sources—Federal Appropriations via U.S. Senator Jerry Moran, KS State SPRINT Grant and most recently a very generous donation from the Sunderland Foundation,” said Jim Remar, President and Chief Executive Officer, “that will allow the organization to refresh several public spaces including the Planetarium and Dr. Goddard’s Lab lobby area as well as two-thirds of the Hall of Space. The donations will allow the Cosmosphere to provide immersive and engaging environments to its visitors including a new classroom and interactive exhibits in the Rocket Lab.”
Parts of the gallery are open during the renovation. While many artifacts will be on display during this time, the exhibits won’t be fully completed until Spring 2025.
