HUTCHINSON, KS, May 2, 2024 – A recent resolution in the U.S. Senate supporting May 3, 2024, as National Space Day mentioned the Cosmosphere prominently. The resolution, passed on April 30, 2024, by Senators Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) and Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), in addition to affirming the recognition of May 3 as National Space Day, recognizes the important role played by the Cosmosphere and other Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education institutions in growing the public’s interest in aerospace career fields.
According to Sen. Moran, “National Space Day recognizes the individuals and communities within the aerospace industry who have made contributions to space exploration and helped grow the United States’ leadership in space.”
Since 1962, the Cosmosphere has sought to contribute to space exploration by expanding the public’s interest in space-related topics through its unique presentation of scientific principles and historic space artifacts. For decades, the Cosmosphere has remained prominent in the STEM education field by offering abundant education opportunities, including Cosmosphere Camps, field trips, exhibits and more.
“As a leading space museum and science education center, the Cosmosphere is committed to providing exceptional STEM programming,” said Jim Remar, the Cosmosphere’s President and CEO. “Our goal is to help ignite that spark in young minds across the region and beyond. We are honored to be mentioned in the Senate Resolution.”
