Cosmosphere CEO Elected to Giant Screen Cinema Association Board

    November 9, 2021

Cosmosphere president and chief executive officer Jim Remar has been appointed to the board of the Giant Screen Cinema Association, an international organization with members representing filmmakers, distributors, and theaters from nearly 30 countries.

Remar joins staff members from the Ontario Science Centre, IMAX Melbourne and the Tennessee Aquarium, among others, as newly elected board members representing theaters.

Cosmosphere’s two-story Carey Digital Dome Theater features a 4K digital projection system that envelopes viewers in an immersive theater experience. The Carey Digital Dome Theater presents several showings of educational documentaries during Cosmosphere’s regular hours, with popular feature films available on weekends.

“The GSCA is the group that oversees the large format film industry with over 260 members,” said Remar. “This is a great opportunity for the Cosmosphere to be engaged within the industry, but more importantly to play a leadership role.”

Remar’s term begins January 1, 2022 and will continue for two years.

The Cosmosphere International SciEd Center & Space Museum is a Smithsonian Affiliate. Located at 1100 North Plum in Hutchinson, KS, its collection includes U.S. space artifacts second only to the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum, and the largest collection of Russian space artifacts outside of Moscow. This unique collection allows the Cosmosphere to tell the story of the Space Race better than any museum in the world while offering fully immersive education experiences that meet Next Generation Science Standards. The Cosmosphere also features the Carey Digital Dome Theater, offering daily documentary showings, a digital Planetarium, and Dr. Goddard’s Lab, where visitors experience live science demonstrations.

The Giant Screen Cinema Association's mission is to facilitate communication, information sharing, and the development of best practices to support the production and exhibition of original, high-quality, educational, and entertaining giant screen cinema experiences. GSCA's membership includes nearly 200 organizations in nearly 30 countries. Member organizations include giant screen filmmakers, distributors, theaters, suppliers, manufacturers, and students from around the world.
