Indirect Viewing Methods for Safely Viewing the Eclipse

No eclipse glasses? No worries! Remember to look down during Monday’s eclipse! Check for small solar crescents in the shadows cast by leaves in trees. What does your own shadow look like?

If you don’t have eclipse glasses or a solar viewer, try an indirect viewing method using household supplies. A colander or hole punched in an index card will work. Stand with your back facing the sun and let it cast its shadow through the paper or colander onto the ground.

*Never look directly at the sun without special equipment designed for looking at the sun.
