Cosmosphere joins the Nation and the World in grieving the loss of an outstanding human–Astronaut Michael Collins. We were privileged to know him. Mike and his daughters, Kate and Ann, joined us here when we celebrated the 50th Anniversary of his flight with John Young on Gemini X.
The unique thing about Mike’s stories about his career as an astronaut was that they always focused on bigger ideas, or on other people and on the importance of things like self expression and literacy. He seldom talked about himself or his achievements.
So, for the lessons on humility, teamwork, courage, wisdom, tenacity, good humor and appreciating the beauty of life, we thank you Mike Collins. You are our hero.
