If you’re one of those parents still trying to plan summer activities, the Cosmosphere just gave you some breathing room. Parents and students have an extra 10 days to register and receive scholarships for summer Cosmosphere Camps. The deadline is now May 10. The original deadline was April 30.
This summer’s camps feature additional activities and objectives designed to make the camps more engaging, challenging and fun. From launching high altitude weather balloons to a night spent 650 feet beneath the Earth’s surface, each camp offers something new.
“We not only are featuring new activities during the camp, but also are bringing in subject matter experts via virtual interviews,” said JoAnna Strecker, Cosmosphere Director of Education. “When you get to hear about geology from Dr. Harrison Schmitt, who is a geologist who walked on the Moon during Apollo 17 and who is taking time to create information specifically for the Mission: Lunar Trek camp, that is pretty cool.”
Camps are available for students entering grades three to 12. The Mission: Martian Base includes a field day activity at Strataca, a salt mine where campers will work in teams to build habitats, source food and build a rover vehicle—all as if they were on the surface of Mars rather than 650 feet beneath the surface on their own planet.
