Position Purpose:

  • Exempt salary position: STEAM Educators are an integral part of the Cosmosphere Education team,
    working alongside other education staff members to ensure education content is developed and
    delivered with excellence.
  • Reports directly to the VP of Education and must maintain an acceptable working relationship with
    other personnel.

Cosmosphere Conformance Statements:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide an entertaining, educational experience to youth participants from grades K-12.
  • Actively engage students with learning opportunities while here, adapting to diverse personalities
    and learning styles as needed.
  • Deliver presentations in the museum (Field Trips), in school classrooms (Outreach), and virtually
    (Livestreams).
  • Always supervise participants during the program, including mealtimes, transition times, and
    overnight (as needed).
  • Participate actively in all program training sessions.
  • Assist with program preparation, set-up, and clean-up of activities as needed.
  • Maintain a positive, supportive, and professional working relationship with all team members,
    participants, and parents.
  • Be knowledgeable about the facility and serve as a guide for the building, education area, and
    museum as needed.
  • Learn to operate all training simulator operations from preparation to conclusion.
  • Be an expert presenter in the Justice Planetarium and Dr. Goddard’s Lab
    • Complete any pre-show preparation promptly.
    • Provide educational instruction & productions in venues at a consistently high-performance level.
    • Responsible for cleaning and resetting the presentation area after each show.
  • Create new presentations and activities for schools, scouts, or camps.
  • Provide leadership for part-time educators working in scouts and camps.

Qualifications

  • Education: Preference will be given to candidates with a college degree or equivalent work
    experience in education, math, science, engineering, or technology.
  • Must be 18 years old.
  • Proven experience teaching/working with youth.
  • Good communication, organizational, leadership, and management skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups, including multicultural and ethnic organizations.
  • Positive attitude and friendly demeanor.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Agree to complete youth protection training relating to the youth program being staffed before the event (generally available online or through local program support).

  • Non-exempt position, responsible for maintaining and up keep of all Cosmosphere building locations.
  • Reports directly to the Plant Service Operations Manager and must maintain an acceptable working relationship with other personnel.

    ability to listen and comprehend details.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for keeping the building clean at all times, including:
    All rest rooms, all offices, the Museum, food court, Carey Digital Dome Theatre, Planetarium, Dr.
    Goddard’s Lab, education area plus classrooms, maintenance area, windows and walls, all halls
    and public spaces.
  • Responsible for helping with lighting, painting within the building and emergency situations relating
    to the building.
  • Responsible for all set-ups and tear downs for special events and group rentals.
  • Respond appropriately to staff needs relevant to the maintenance of the building.
  • Required to cover work schedules for full-time staff when they are out on vacation or sick leave.
  • Required to follow any other job-related instructions and to perform any other job-related duties
    requested.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent and relevant work experience required.

Work Requirements

  • Schedule: Monday – Friday 7AM-4PM and weekend availability (40 hours per week)
  • Physical mobility: sitting, standing, walking, ability to kneel, bend and lift/carry objects up to 50 lbs.,
    manual dexterity to operate keyboard.
  • Mental effort: working on computer during time spent on the job, reading, writing, analyzing, visualizing.
  • Sensory requirement: ability to communicate and respond both in person and over the telephone to the general public, ability to communicate and respond to staff.

The Cosmosphere is looking for a Box Office & Retail Associate.

This is a part-time position, and must be available to work weekdays, evenings, and weekends. Must be 18 years or older.

Job type: part-time.

Box Office Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Acquire proficiency in the operation of the computerized ticketing system.
  • Acquire proficiency in cash handling to maintain an acceptable level of cash balancing.
  • Acquire proficiency in customer service to provide professional service at all times.
  • Provide information on events, shows, and our facility. Be knowledgeable about the basic aspects of our exhibits, retail facilities, the Space Program, NASA, etc.
  • Provide quality Hall of Space tours for patrons as needed and assigned.
  • Ensure customers are greeted in a friendly, professional, and courteous manner, both in person and on the phone.
  • Operate the Simulator and instruct patrons on process – Must be 18 years old or older to operate Simulator
  • Maintain a professional appearance at all times.
  • Keep up the visual presentation of the lobby and workspace for the general public.
  • Required to follow any other job-related instructions and to perform any other job-related duties requested.

Retail Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • A Retail Associate clerk must have the following skills and willingness to perform tasks as assigned.
  • A friendly and outgoing personality that is willing to greet, welcome visitors of all ages to the Cosmosphere Gift Store and Cosmosphere Concession and offer assistance.
  • Ability to learn the products we sell, becoming knowledgeable enough to sell, display, and recommend items to customers.
  • Willing to learn all aspects of the point-of-sale system, ringing customer sales including different scenarios such as giving discounts, employee purchases and sale items and capable of counting down and closing the register.
  • Proficient in business math; counting change, calculate tax and discounts. Able to count merchandise accurately and record quantities received correctly on the receiving worksheet. 
  • Each Retail Associate must be able to work alone as needed and capable of opening and closing the store properly. Although being able to work alone is important, we expect our staff to work together as a team.
  • Have good telephone skills and able to take customer orders correctly.
  • Understand the importance of keeping the store stocked and clean. faced properly and able to perform these tasks without direction.
  • Required to follow any other job-related instructions and to perform any other job-related duties requested.
