    The Cosmosphere's main entrance, naviGATOR simulator and lobby will be closing early to the General Public on Friday, October 18 at 5:00 pm for a private event. The Carey Digital Dome Theater shows afer 5:00 pm will play as scheduled. The Hall of Space Museum and Gift Store are open normal hours until 7:00 pm.

    Please use the alternate entrance to the North of the main entrance, by the Richard E. Smith Science Center.

  • Landing on the Lawn: Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11

    Date: Saturday, July 20, 2019 6:00 PM – 11:30 PM
    Location: Hutchinson Community College lawn (just North of the Cosmosphere building)

    SAVE THE DATE! July 20, 2019 • 6:00 pm – 11:30 pm

    Free and open to the public, this fun, family-focused community event will be held on the Hutchinson Community College (HCC) lawn and is in conjunction with HCC and Hutch Rec.

    Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the lunar landing with hands-on, Moon and space-themed activities from various community organizations and live science demonstrations from Cosmosphere Science Educators.  Food and adult beverages will be available for purchase from a number of local food truck vendors.  Stay after dark and enjoy a showing of the 1969 CBS footage of the Moon landing, followed by an Apollo 11 documentary on an outdoor screen. To wrap up the event, Cosmosphere Science Educators will host a Moon and planet observing, using a giant 16” diameter telescope.

    Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and bug spray, and don't forget to wear your favorite attire from 1969!

  • Coffee at the Cosmo: The Greenland Impact Crater Discovery

    Enjoy this free presentation: "The Greenland Impact Crater Discovery," by special guest presenter, John Paden, Associate Scientist, Center for Remote Sensing of Ice Sheets (CReSIS), Kansas University.

    Kansas University radar systems measure the ice thickness of the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets and these data lead to the discovery of a large impact crater beneath the ice in northwest Greenland. Dr. Paden will present about the radar systems used to map the crater, how the crater was discovered and verified, and discuss the ongoing work to understand how the ice sheet affected the impact and the next steps to improve the dating of the impact crater.
