restoration and preservation

Restoration Overview

As the Cosmosphere's restoration, replication and fabrication facility, Spaceworks is responsible for some of the finest and most historic restorations of space and rocket artifacts in the world. They also produce preservation display cases that safely store and conserve genuine artifacts.

The Spaceworks craftsmen have completed more than 20 major restoration projects in its 20-year history, as well as a variety of smaller projects. For example, SpaceWorks restored the actual Apollo 13 command module Odyssey and was integral in retrieving and restoring Liberty Bell 7, Gus Grissom's spacecraft that spent 30+ years at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. (Upon completion of the restoration project, the Smithsonian titled Liberty Bell 7 to the Cosmosphere, which makes the spacecraft the only flown U.S. manned capsule NOT owned by the Smithsonian.)
