MLK DAY COMMUNITY RECEPTION AT THE COSMOSPHERE

    January 15, 2018

HUTCHINSON, Kan.—On Monday, January 15, the Cosmosphere will host a community reception to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

From 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., the community is invited to the Cosmosphere for performances from local musicians and dance troops. Light refreshments will be served in the newly renovated Cosmo Cafe and the public is invited to view a new exhibit in the museum rotunda, titled “Dream Makers”— which celebrates the contributions and accomplishments of several African-American astronauts.

Also, in anticipation of the holiday, the Cosmosphere has brought back the popular 2017 film, “Hidden Figures”. The movie will be shown at 7:00 p.m. on both Friday, January 12, and Saturday, January 13, in the Cosmosphere’s Carey Digital Dome theater.

For “Hidden Figures” showtimes or more information on the MLK Jr. Day event, please call the Cosmosphere Box Office at 620.662.2305.

TRAIN LIKE AN ASTRONAUT AT THE SPACE SCIENCE SPECTACULAR IN DODGE CITY!

The Cosmosphere will offer the chance to win a ride on an authentic Multi-Axis Trainer (MAT) as part of dozens of activities it’s bringing from Hutchinson to Dodge City in June for the Space Science Spectacular.

On June 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and June 3 from 12:00 p.m. to 4 p.m., at the Dodge City Civic Center, Cosmosphere Science Educators will demonstrate the operation of underwater robotic vehicles; the use of a geocache; an explosive history of rocketry; how to cope with the challenges of living in space and even a tasty way to remember the phases of the moon while eating Oreo cookies!

Many more Cosmosphere activities will be offered including an interactive astronomy presentation and a solar system bracelet to take home. This free event is open to the public and will offer visitors the opportunity to see and experience a number of space science activities, demonstrations and displays.

Visitors to the event will also be able to see displays from the Cosmosphere’s museum collection—including a historic mission control console from Johnson Space Center and several examples of astronaut food.

On Saturday, a free pizza lunch (while supplies last) will also be offered.

Offered through the Dodge City Schools and sponsored by The Victory Electric Cooperative Assoc., Inc., United Wireless and Hutton Construction.
