June takes off on a high note at the Cosmosphere!

    June 2, 2017

June’s Coffee date has been rescheduled for June 8th to coincide with the availability of Dr. Michael Neufeld, Senior Curator in the Division of Space History at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, Washington, D.C.

Neufeld is considered to be of one of the nation’s leading experts on the life and work of Wehner Von Braun, the man credited with the creation of the V2 rocket for Nazi Germany and the Saturn V rocket for the United States. Neufeld will speak at 9 a.m. followed by a book signing at 10 a.m. of his book Von Braun: Dreamer of Space, Engineer of War. He will also offer a special presentation at a Cosmosphere members-only reception at 6:30 p.m.

Also on Thursday, June 8, at the Cosmosphere…

The Summer Choral Institute at Kansas State University will offer a performance at 11 a.m.  in the Cosmosphere Lobby.

The group of high school freshman, sophomores and juniors will sing from the wing of the Cosmosphere’s space shuttle Endeavour replica. Forty of the nation’s top high school choral music students are selected each year to attend the KSU Summer Choral Institute. In the past, the group has performed with the Symphony in the Flint Hills and at the Eisenhower Museum. Following the performance, the group will participate in a Mars Bound team building activity and tour the Cosmosphere.
